Program Counter in Hindi (प्रोग्राम काउंटर क्या है?)
एक PC (program counter) प्रोसेसर में एक रजिस्टर होता है जो उस अगले instruction के address को contain किये रहता है जिसे memory से execute करना होता है.
यह एक 16 bit रजिस्टर होता है और इसे instruction counter, instruction pointer, तथा instruction address register (IAR) भी कहते है.
PC (program counter) एक डिजिटल काउंटर होता है जिसकी आवश्यकता tasks को जल्दी execute करने तथा वर्तमान execution point को track करने के लिए होती है.
memory में उपस्थित सभी instructions तथा data का एक विशेष address होता है. जैसे ही प्रत्येक instruction को प्रोसेस किया जाता है, तो program counter को fetch किये जाने वाले अगले instructions के address के लिए update किया जाता है. जब एक byte (machine code) को fetch कर लिया जाता है तो PC को एक से increment कर दिया जाता है. जिससे कि वह अगले instruction को fetch कर सके. यदि कंप्यूटर को reset या restart किया जाता है तो program counter वापस zero वैल्यू पर आ जाता है.
उदाहरण के लिए माना कि PC का content 8000H है. जिसका मतलब यह है कि प्रोसेसर 8000H पर instruction byte को fetch करना चाहता है. byte को 8000H पर fetch करने के बाद PC अपने आप एक (1) से increment हो जाता है. इस प्रकार प्रोसेसर instruction के अगले byte को fetch करने के लिए या अगले opcode को fetch करने के लिए ready हो जाती है.
